ZXPS - ZX Printer Shield for the Arduino UNO Now you can print from your Arduino UNO to your TIMEX TS2040, ALPHACOM 32, and Sinclair ZX printers! The open source Arduino Libraries are on GitHub. They are very well commented and include example Arduino sketches. Together they serve as the documentation on using the ZXPS. A comprehensive support website includes - a review of the software - assembly/soldering instructions - the schematic and parts list - example applications The photo above show: 1 - An Arduino UNO with ZXPS is taking power from a USB cable, and a temperature and humidity sensor is hooked up to the ZXPS through its QwiicSTEMMA interface. 2 - ZXPS with basic printer components, plus optional solderless breadboard, Quiic/STEMMA and Serial interface components installed. 3 - The ZXPS is shipped as a kit. The 8 components needed to complete the printer function are large, easy-to-solder thru-hole components. Typical assembly time is 10 minutes. It ships with an optional 170-pin solderless breadboard that you can self-stick in the middle of the ZXPS. If you are going to interface to a 3.3 or lower voltage I2C sensor, 8 SMDs are included for an optional Qwiic/STEMMA circuit, but this requires good eyesight and surface mount device soldering skills and tools. 4 - This photo shows a sample of the three fonts built into the ZXPS Arduino Library. The Arduino Logo was printed using the library's bit-map function. 5 - This screen shows the main ZXPS Arduino Library's menu expanded to show the built-in examples. 6 - A REGUALR STACK of 2 - This photo shows and ZXPS pluged into an Arduino UNO. 7 - A TRIPLE STACK - An example of an Arduino Proto Shield with a real-time-clock and other components, plugged into the ZXPS which in turn is plugged into an Arduino UNO. You could similarly stack a Arduino Ehternet shield of a host of other shields. 8. A brief manual is included but more comprehensive support is online. If you are wondering if your old TS2040 or Alphacom 32 printer still works, take note that it has a built-in self test. The Alphacom 32 and TS2040 printers are almost identical and both were manufactured by Alphacom. The thermal paper rolls from the 1980s generally still work. ( excerpt from the manual ) SELF TEST: A SELF-TEST mode has been built into your Alphacom 32 Printer to provide a simple operational check. When placed in this mode the printer repeatedly prints a line of the numeral "8" and a line of the numeral "1". The test mode is entered by pressing the OFF button once while holding the ON/ADVANCE button down then releasing the ON/ADVANCE button. To stop SELF-TEST, press the OFF button. To reset printer into printing mode press ON/ADVANCE button.
