Description: This is an INCREDIBLY rare variant of a ww2 legion of merit... this medal has a lot going for it. This is an early war time sterling silver planchet slot brooch legion of merit. It has the period correct officer grade device. This means this example was awarded to A General or Flag Officer during ww2. There is evidence this came from a medal grouping display. This no doubt was owned and awarded to a WW2 General officer... An exceptionally RARE medal, the sterling planchet examples alone are very scarce... you simply dont see this variant or the officer grade examples from ww2 on the market it just simply doesnt happen... device is the ww2 era style high detail bronze/ goldish colored device. The medal condition is excellent all enamelling is perfect, no scratches or unnessary wear marks.. these sterling planchets have a lot of detail and the silverish toning really brings out a lot of detail... PHOTOS DONT do this medal any justice in hand it is truly a stunning piece... only thing of note is a small bit of staining to the ribbon on the reverse were it was removed from a medal grouping display but this does not effect it at all. I cant say again how this medal in hand is stunning...
