Description: WW1 British Map (SHEET 6) Ex-Museum Stock (Mostly Features NEUTRAL Holland)This map is entitled "Belgium and Part of Holland" but it should really be the other way around as only a tiny part of it covers Belgian soil and the rest is Holland. Whilst the Dutch were officially neutral in WW1, they still had obligations to honour under International Law with regards the treatment of foreign combatants detained in their country. At the beginning of the war thousands of British and Belgian soldiers were pushed over the border by German troops, and many others of all nationalities either strayed across the border, crash landed planes or simply deserted. For most of the war, the need for such a map would, in truth, be very little. However, towards the end of the war when the Germans were retreating quickly, such maps might have been considered less indispensable should the Germans have continued to retreat rather than seek an armistice. As such, this Sheet 6 map would have been produced in comparatively small numbers and is actually quite difficult to come by.This example bears a raised museum stamp (with archive serial number), a map cabinet 'hanging strip' neatly attached to the rear and is in excellent condition as explained below...This map is one of many acquired from a private collection which was previously purchased in 2002 from The Imperial War Museum. Each item was held in the museum's duplicate archives and deemed surplus. Almost all have IWM stock numbers or stamps etc and many have been linen backed for long term conservation and storage purposes. Significant numbers were unused surplus stock when originally transferred to the museum and have never even been folded. As such, many of these original WW1 maps are in 'time capsule' condition, and there are numerous 'Secret' or 'Confidential' maps relating to major battles amongst them. I will be working my way through the collection in due course. POSTAGE - Will be sent packaged flat as per its existing fold lines unless purchased as part of a much larger collection of maps. Then it may be sent rolled in a brand new cardboard postal tube according to value and condition etc of any other maps purchased.International parcels will be fully tracked. The seller reserves the right to cancel any sale to destinations which cannot guarantee a fully tracked route from door to door.(Ref 250) PLEASE NOTE - Following BREXIT, some items exported from the UK to EU countries may now incur import tariffs on arrival. This depends on the overall value of the item (or items) contained within the package. UK sellers are now required to display these details in the form of a Customs Declaration attached to the outside of the package. Such matters are beyond my control as the process is administered by the Customs Department of the destination country. With this in mind, please can all buyers from EU countries make themselves aware of how these changes may affect them when purchasing items from the UK. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
