The snow-white decoration on the vase was created to depict and imitate the colour and shapes of Etruscan and Greek vases, which were being excavated in Italy. • Creator: Wedgwood & Bentley (Original Authors) • Josiah Wedgwood I (1730–1795), was an English potter, entrepreneur and abolitionist. Founding the Wedgwood company in 1759 • he developed & improved pottery bodies by systematic experimentation, and was the leader in the industrialisation of the manufacture of European pottery. Jasperware, is a type of pottery first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. Usually described as stoneware, it has an unglazed matte ‘biscuit’ finish and is produced in different colours. The decorations in contrasting colours (typically in white) giving an amazing cameo effect! The handmade decoration reliefs are produced in moulds and applied to the ware as sprigs.
