They are best known for their international television series, contributing to the popularization of Irish Music in North America, and for the songs "The Unicorn", "Drunken Sailor", "Wasn't That a Party", "The Orange and the Green", "Whiskey on a Sunday", "Lily the Pink", "Finnegan's Wake" and "The Black Velvet Band". The primary voices heard in the group's early songs were Will Millar (tenor), Jimmy Ferguson (baritone), George Millar and Joe Millar. Wilcil McDowell's accordion has been a signature sound of the band throughout their more than fifty five years. The Irish Rovers – The Unicorn The Unicorn is the debut studio album of the Canadian Irish folk music group The Irish Rovers, released in 1967 and topped the charts in 1968. The title track "The Unicorn", a recording of Shel Silverstein's poem based on Noah's Ark, featured Glen Campbell on lead guitar, and reached #2 in the US Adult Contemporary Charts, #7 in the U.S. Hot 100, #4 in Canada, and #5 in Ireland. Despite having virtually nothing to do with Ireland or Irish culture, the song remains popular in Irish pubs to this day.
