Original poster advertising “The Fantabulous New York Rock Party,” held at the Manhattan Center in New York on May 30, 1976. An ironic moment in New York punk and art scene history, some of the earliest evidence that the movement created to mock celebrity status was beginning to see itself in terms of celebrity. Also interesting here is evidence of early sub-divisions of punk mainstays (e.g., Dee Dee Ramone of the Ramones, Jerry Nolan, Walter Lure, and Johnny Thunders of the New York Dolls), the presence of by-then-established Factory luminaries of the late 1960s (Holly Woodlawn), professional groupies (Sable Starr), and transgender representatives (Divine and the cast of "Women Behind Bars," Wayne County and the Back Street Boys). Mention is also made of door prizes consisting of memorabilia signed by a number of punk antecedents, including David Bowie, Aerosmith, and Kiss. Susan Whitall, Creem, June 1976NEW YORK — One early spring evening at CBGB's Wayne County was wrapping up his parody of Patti Smith when a disturbance erupted. All that the participants will agree upon is that Handsome Dick Manitoba of the Dictators was at one time or another on the stage, that he said "things" to Wayne, that some mention of "spit" was made, and that Wayne nailed him with a microphone stand. After that things erupted into a full-scale brawl; Manitoba's collarbone was broken and Wayne County was detained in the Tombs for a day. Says Wayne:
