Description: A small silverplated ewer by James Tufts, one of the premier manufacturers of decorative silver plate in the US during the late 19th century. The small ewer was probably intended to be used as a vase. The shape gives a nod to the Etruscan culture of pre-Rome. The front of the ewer/vase was engraved with a wheatlike design. A mark on the base reads JAMES TUFTS BOSTON WARRANTED TRIPLE PLATE. It has a production number of 709. MEASUREMENTS 3” (7.6 cm) diameter x 7 ¼” (18.4 cm) tall. Weighs 9.6 oz (270 g) CONDITION There are silver losses and wear due to polishing over the years. There is a dent on the back edge of the base. There are no cracks, or breaks, and the vase still has a shiny appearance. A great James Tufts vase to add to a collection or to decorate with.
