Description: Antique Meiji Era (1868-1912) Japanese Glazed Pottery 13" Sake Barrel Jug (Tokkuri) This piece comes from the estate of a relative. It was originally purchased many years ago from the estate of a noted Scottsdale collector of Asian arts and crafts. The overall condition is very good. Like most similar antique Japanese earthenware pieces of this type, it contains some superficial cracks that occur during the firing process. However, these types of cracks are not due to damage. Most of the blemishes were originally present from the pottery making process and are typical of original antique pieces. Most of the "perfect" examples being sold on eBay are not period pieces. They are either reproductions, or were made at a much later time. Please see the photos in order to determine the actual condition. This type of antique Japanese sake jug is called a tokkuri. The originals were made in the Meiji Era (1868-1912). This type of sake jug was sturdily constructed so that it could be returned to the sake company that made it so that it could be refilled. It is all handmade and fired at high temperatures for lasting durability. It is 13" tall and 10" in diameter. It weighs a little under 16 lbs. This piece is being sold "AS IS". Its defects are endemic to this type of item, and are not grounds for returns. It will look great as part of your unique décor. Don't miss it! *****(I am selling 2 different sake jugs. Please see my other listings to view the other one.) **This is a private listing in order to protect your privacy.
