USS Texas: This 573' New York Class battleship was built and re-built between 1911 and 1921 and served in both the first and second world wars. She participated with the North Sea Fleet in 1918. She supported the 1944 Normandy Landings with the shelling of enemy shore targets. This also the case during the Iwo Jima and Okinawa Campaigns in the Pacific in WW II. She was open to the public at San Jacinto State Park in LaPorte, TX. She is currently (2024) undergoing a 30 million dollar hull restoration project in a Texas dry dock( Gulf Copper Shipyard). Her new home will be in Galveston, TX, and it is also under construction. Some tours are available.
