USMC 4th LAI Bn obsolete Marines PATCH 4th Light Armored Infantry Battalion ODS!

Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! This is a FINE example of a unit logo patch for 4th Light Armored Infantry Battalion. These can't be found just anywhere! Not, of course, allowed on the uniform, but worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. Light armored battalions are relatively new entities in the USMC, and are based around the eight-wheeled LAV (light armored vehicle.) 4th LAI served with distinction in Desert Storm (known then as 4th Light Armored Vehicle Bn) with 2nd Marine Division (Reinforced) and Marine Forces Afloat. The unit is a reserve battalion with subordinate units based in California, Maryland, Utah, and Virginia. NOTE: The logo in this version of the patch represents the older 4th Light Armored Infantry designation, since the shield bears the crossed bars of infantry. I’m told the palm tree on the shield is unofficial, and was taken from the crest position of the original battalion coat of arms. This unit now uses the Light Armored Reconnaissance designation, and the current patch shows only one bar signifying cavalry or, I suppose, "armored cav," which is technically what these units are. In 2003, 4th LAR served with the initial invasion, and was deployed along the Iraq/Iran border and in northern Babil province, earning the Presidential Unit Citation! In 2006, B Company again deployed as part of the security unit at Hiditha Dam. Also am told 4th LAR was performing riverine missions on boats. (Many thanks, everyone, for your input!)
