Description: Union Valse, Composed by Peter La Grassa. Respectfully Dedicated to Miss Cordelia Guirola of San Salvador, Central America. New York, Published by Horace Waters, 333 Broadway. 6 pages, folio. Extremely rare in fact no copies recorded, of this interesting Civil War sheet music composed by a New York City tenor and apparent composer named Peter La Grassa who appears to enjoyed some regional New York popularity before dying in 1881 in a railroad accident. The music is dedicated to Mrs Cordelia (Duke) Guirola, born in Jamaica, who was the wife of the future president of El Salvador, Angel Guirola, the two marrying in 1859 in New York City which is likely where these folks all met. There are no copies anywhere as stated, the British Library appears to have something like this but no actual bibliographical information. Condition is overall very good, with ads for the music publisher on back. Nice American flag cover. No splits, some creasing, a really great old Civil War rarity.
