Description: You can't beat this design for simplicity. A single tube 6V6 cw transmitter, with just a switch and one control on the front panel. Once properly adjusted, with the single front panel control, it produces a real nice cw tone. This transmitter is constructed in the pine wood slat board style, typical of similar items found in the 1930/40's era. I have finished the wood with several coats of clear polyurethane. Lately I have been clamp gluing the slats together with yellow carpenter's wood glue, so there's no need to construct the chassis with screws (as shown). The glue is quite adequate to hold things together. The power requirement is a single 6 to 7 volt dc source, capable of providing about 2 amps dc current, when transmitting. This can be either a bench top dc supply or batteries. A single front panel switch provides power on/off, standby and transmit functions. In standby mode the filament only is turned on, with just over 1/2 amp current drain. Switching to transmit provides instant dc voltage to operate the 6V6 transmitter circuit. In standby mode no high voltage is being produced by the inverter power circuit, which employs a 6.3 filament transformer, driven by power transistors. Please do not purchase this item if you are not experienced in working around exposed high voltage. When the inverter is active the no load dc voltage is over 200 volts DC, which can be quite lethal if not handled with the respect you'd allow for any high voltage circuit. High voltage is only present inside the slat board chassis. The plate circuit is shunt fed, so there is no high voltage on any of the exterior parts or controls. In key down transmit, the dc power supply voltage drops to about 150 to 155 volts dc. This is quite normal. Depending on the band and activity of the crystal used, the RF power out varies from about 2.0 to 2.4 watts. Not bad for a single 6V6, operating from a 6 to 7 volt dc source. 3 coils are provided, one each for 160, 80 and 40 meters. The 40 meter coil will actually work on the 30 meter band, but the only QRP crystals available for that band are the small HC49/S types and they are going to have a hint of chirp/warble because 2 watts plus is pushing their power limit capability. I have no spare 160 meter crystals, but will include crystals for the 80 and 40 meter cw bands only (one crystal for each band). I make these from scratch, so please allow approximately 10 business days for shipping, once ordered. I guarantee this transmitter will work if properly connected to a power source and your ham radio antenna. A good earth ground is always essential for best performance. A hand sketched schematic diagram of the circuit will be provided with your purchase. No power source is included with this item.
