Description: In 1686 Pope Innocent XI issued a breve permitting the publication and reading of the 4 volumes of The Mystical City of God. Ven. Mary of Agreda died in 1666 and the volumes were translated from the Spanish to German and English. The original volumes are well over 2,000 pages, given to Mother Mary Agreda as visions and for the "encouragement of men", basically for the good of us all as we read the Life of the Blessed Virgin. The first pages of this book of 608 pages explain the rather complicated procedures of obtaining approval by church officials so that this book can be read without harm to Faith or Morals. The Great Pope Benedict XIII used these revelations in his sermons on the Blessed Virgin. Mother Mary of Jesus saw in ecstasy all the events recorded in the book. Later, Our Lady told her to write them down in a book. This work has inspired laity and clergy for over 300 years and has gone into sixty editions in various languages. This shortened form of the 4 volume original set allows many more people to discover and be moved by the many topics the book addresses, including the creation of the world, Lucifer's rebellion, the location of Hell, the hidden life of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, intimate details about Our Lord's life, and other topics.
