The Magpies Denis Glover Dick Frizzell (HC, 1987) Illustrated Poem New Zealand

Description: This listing is for the 1987 hardcover book version of the poem The Magpies by New Zealand poet Denis Glover. This version is an illustrated picture book with movable flaps for each set of facing pages. It was illustrated by Dick Frizzell. The book has 13 pages (counting the flaps as part of their adjacent pages) with 6 double-sided flaps. Condition Details No dust jacket--do not know if it was issued with one originally. Covers have scratches/scuffs, edge/corner wear & wear-through, dustiness and general soiling (See 17th/18th Photos for examples), bumping, and a deep impact mark near the bottom of the spine (See 19th Photo). There is also a vertical crease running through both covers from the book's half-page flaps (possibly wear, possibly actually designed that way - maybe to protect the binding from the uneven depth?). Binding is definitely loose and is very weak about 2/3 of the way through the book (See 20th Photo)--all pages still attached, but you will want to be gentle in that area. Top of text-block has a little foxing (See 21st Photo). Copyright page has a gray line running through it (again caused by the uneven pages - See 4th Photo). Pages have some yellowing from edges--visible on the white pages at the beginning, but completely disappears in the illustrations). Illustrations are bold and vibrant. Has no "non-book" odors. Pages (and even more so the front end-paper) have small handling (pinch) creases. Pages also have a deeper crease near the binding related to the above-mentioned impact mark on the spine (See 22nd Photo for example). Rear end-paper has a small internal tear at the binding (again likely caused by the above-mentioned impact - See Last Photo). End-papers have some rubbing wear. All text clear and readable.
