Description: Sweetgum Tree (Liquidambar styraciflua) bare-root starts 10-pack of 2-to-3-year-old trees Sweetgum is a beautiful deciduous tree which thrives in the Southeastern USA, with leaves turning multiple colors, including yellow, amber, orange, red, violet and purple, in the autumn. Leaves, when lightly crushed, provide a very pleasant scent. Fallen, dried leaves are an important component for use in natural farm composting operations. The spiked seed pods provide nutritious seeds for wildlife. Sweet gum trees tend to thrive in the proximity of other trees, such as oak, sourwood, hickory and pine, vines and understory plants, and can benefit from some partial shade. They enjoy well-drained soil and ample water supply. Sweetgum trees produce a beautiful fine-grained wood that is useful for a variety of purposes including the production of chopsticks. The package contains 10 or more sweetgum bare-root plants with stems varying from 6 to 24 inches in length (any leaves have been trimmed off so that the new starts can grow at client's site with an emphasis on root-growth), picked on the day of shipping and packed with moist Escambia Woods Moss. The sweetgum roots should be planted in well drained soil of high organic-matter content in the vicinity of other trees where they will receive partial shade, immediately within 24 hours upon receiving, and provided with adequate water.
