These recordings and Book tell the detailed story of the many "adaptations" of the original movie through the years: 1) SUNSET BLVD Starring Gloria Swanson: Original Radio Broadcast (1976) (Mark 56 Records - 753) Lux Radio Theatre Broadcast on September 17, 1951. Gloria Swanson and William Holden re-create their original roles from the 1950 motion picture. Record is a George Garabedian Production. CONDITION: Vinyl = Excellent. Cover = Very Good +. 2) GLORIA SWANSON IN BOULEVARD! ; The Long Awaited Musical Adaptation of "Sunset Boulevard" (19??) (BLD-GS) It's not surprising that Gloria Swanson herself was involved in an attempt to bring a musical adaptation of the movie she starred in 1950. As early as 1952 a book and songs began development and in 1957 Gloria Swanson actually appeared on Steve Allen's "The Tonight Show" to perform a scene and music from a musical called "Boulevard!" Unfortunately, Paramount studios (the financial backers of the musical) withdrew their support and the musical never materialized as a Broadway vehicle. This LP recording showcases the songs from the musical with songs Written by Dickson Hughes & Richard Stanley and sung by Gloria Swanson (as Norma) and Dickson Hughes (as Max).AND a wonderful opportunity to give you an idea of what the production could have been.CONDITION: Vinyl & Cover = Excellent. 3) SUNSET BOULEVARD: The Classic Film Scores of Franz Waxman (1974) (RCA Red Seal - ARLT-0708) (Includes 4-page insert with additional notes by John Waxman and movie stills) Charles Gerhardt conducting the National Philharmonic Orchestra. SIDE B- Cut 1 includes a Sunset Boulevard suite: (1) main title; (2) Norma Desmond; (3) The Studio Stroll; (4) The Comeback: Norma As Salome. Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Book & Lyrics by Don Black & Christopher Hampton. Based on the Billy wilder film. Musical staging by Bob Avian. Direction by Trevor Nunn. World Premier was on July 12, 1993 at the Adelphi Theatre, London England. Cast:Patti LuPone, Kevin Anderson, Daniel Bengali, Meredith Braun. (NOTE:The Broadway Premier was in November of 1994 with Glenn Close and Alan Campbell in the starring roles) CONDITION: CD's = Excellent. Jewel Cover = Excellent. 5) PLAYBILL: SUNSET BLVD (December 1995) (Vol. 95, No. 12) (Minskoff Theatre, NYC) This Broadway cast includes Betty Buckley (as Norma) who replaced the Glenn Close when she left the show. CONDITION: Excellent. 6) SUNSET BLVD: From Movie To Musical (1993) (Henry Holt & Company - First American Edition) Author George Perry writes the definitive account (170 pages) of a memorable Hollywood film classic and a superb record of a great stage musical (see photo for Table of Contents).
