Plastic cover is very good! SEE PICTURES OPERATION OLYMPIC: is SPI's hypothetical simulation on a regiment-brigade level of the planned invasion of Japan scheduled for November 1945. The "Olympic" invasion aimed at Kyushu, the southernmost of the Japanese Home Islands, was to have secured the base for Operation Coronet, the final Allied assault onto the Tokyo Plains scheduled for early 1946. Historically, the plans for both operations were cancelled with the Japanese surrender announcement of August 1945. Because the Japanese were committed to a rigid plan centered on an aggressive beach defense, the basic version of Operation Olympic is a solitaire game in which the sole Player maneuvers both of the opposing forces. In doing this, the Player exercises complete control over the thirteen American Army and Marine divisions available for the invasion while the Japanese Army operates according to a rigid set of Doctrine Rules based upon the actual Japanese defense plans. In addition to the unique Japanese Doctrine Rules which make Operation Olympic the first true solitaire simulation using a hex grid map, concise rules covering combat, supply, reinforcements, amphibious assaults, Japanese suicide tactics, and aerial Kamikaze operations add to the puzzle-like quality of this challenging solitaire game. The easy to play solitaire game is complemented by additional rules which turn Operation Olympic into a very enjoyable Two Player Game.
