Description: Up for sale is this Slingerland 10”x 14” Legion Heir Model wooden shell parade snare drum no. 574, c. mid-1960s. Features: · Mahogany finish· Oval black and brass Niles badge etched with raised lettering, with serial number 11831· “Rapid” snare strainer· Wood counter hoops top and bottom· 8 single tension tuning rods with stud center supports· 12 wire-wound gut snares· Molded 3-ply maple/poplar/mahogany shell with maple reinforcing rings· Includes a marching neck/shoulder strap This drum is in excellent condition, and appears all original, except for the top head (and the accompanying neck/shoulder strap). The chrome hardware is in outstanding condition, including the 8 stud center supports and 16 tension claws, “Rapid” snare strainer, butt plate, and convenient drum key holder. The interior of the drum is clean and includes the maple reinforcing rings. The original black and brass Niles badge with a serial number rounds out the features. The sound is warm, woody and dry. There are some superficial scratches on the shell, a few stick dents in the top counter hoop and, in the interest of full disclosure, also note (see photo) that the top counter exhibits a hairline crack. It showed that crack when I purchased the drum, and it hasn’t affected the playing, sound or condition of the drum over the many years I have had it and played it. I take extra care whenever removing the top counter hoop and/or top head. A great addition to any snare drum collection. Ships within the contiguousU.S. only.
