Description: Here we have a Set of Vintage IRWIN No. 'D R', 13 Auger Brace Drill Bits, in a Naugahyde Wrap Roll. In 1884 Charles IRWIN owned a pharmacy in Martinsville, Ohio. A local blacksmith who was a customer of Mr. IRWIN's came up with the idea for a solid center auger bit. He sold the rights to this invention to Mr. IRWIN and a year later, after patenting the Auger bit, Charles IRWIN, along with four other business partners formed the IRWIN Auger Bit Co. This set of bits is in EXCELLENT 'lightly used tool' condition with very minor wear to the surfaces. All of the bits are marked by the maker and with the size number. The set has the the following sizes: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16. Very Nice clean bits with Excellent flutes, cutting spurs, and starter screws.
