Description: **** R H O D E S I A **** 1 9 6 6 P R I N T I N G V A R I E T I E S Harrison & Mardon 5-shillings 'Cattle' definitives Photogravure and Lithographic Images SUPERB NEVER HINGED (UNMOUNTED) MINT Sc.#234 & 234a, S.G. 385 & 403 -------------------- After Independence in late 1965, designs of SOUTHERN RHODESIA's definitives were adapted by both the London printers, Harrison & Sons (single stamp), and the Salisbury printers, Mardons (vertical pair), for the 1966 RHODESIA definitive stamps. Harrisons' photogravure process used a thinner paper, where the design could be faintly seen from the back of the stamp. On the thicker paper used in Mardon's lithographic printing, the design did not show through on the reverse side. For the Harrison printing of 9 February 1966, the colours, per Gibbons catalogue, are given as light brown, bistre-yellow, and light blue. For the Mardon printing of 25 June 1966, the colours are given as deep bistre-yellow, yellow-brown, and light blue.
