Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Why pay more for the same (or inferior) quality sign or a little less for a damaged barn find? "Pepsi-Cola hits the spot /Twelve full ounces, that's a lot / Twice as much for a nickel, too."Remember this 1930s to 1950s radio jingle? Neither do we, but Pepsi went to the bank by advertising its bottles held twice as much as six-ounce Coke bottles for the same price. Never mind how it tasted. Even during World War II, Pepsi chipped away at Coke's immense popularity with clever radio and print advertising, selling more soft drink for the same price as they broke the nation's rationing laws by using illegally imported Mexican sugar. Hey, how else could they keep their price so low? The original of this sign dates back to the World War II years because it was red, white and blue and had the colon or double dot between “Pepsi” and “Cola”. Sign maker Peter Rooney and his wife Ande liked the look of this sign and got permission from Pepsico in 1991 to make authorized reproductions, not in the original tin, but luxurious and painstaking enameled porcelain (their model was Andy Warhol’s tomato soup can art). This is the original 1991 issue because the Ande Rooney label on the back has no bar code, as newer versions do. No chips, scratches, missing paint or enamel, dings, or other blemishes on front or back of this 18 x 6 inch (46 x 15 cm). The real original 1991 Pepsico copyright date is on front bottom right, not some foreign-made imitation. Why pay more for the same (or inferior) quality sign or a little less for a damaged barn find? Perfect to hang in a garage, household, or restaurant, but not in Chicago’s Billy Goat Tavern (they only serve Coke, no Pepsi!).
