Description: Five engraved images by German so-called Little Masters (and brothers) Barthel Beham and Hans Sebald Beham, remarkably accurate intaglio facsimiles at original size etched and printed in the 1800s by Amand Durand in Paris. One 12.5 x 9 inch sheet with 5 images on two plates. Outstanding condition. The two skull (memento mori) images are Barthel's most cited and fascinating works, here quite precisely replicated in three dimensions over 150 years ago in France. In archival glassine and shipped in a heavy-duty flat mailer. Thank you for looking at my lot. I hope you’ll consider checking out my other listings, and enjoy your day! Amand Durand searched museums and private collections for outstanding impressions of the greatest Renaissance engravings. He then photographed and transferred the images in their original sizes onto copper and etched them into the plates. The results were intaglio plates he inked, wiped, and printed by hand just like the originals, creating facsimiles so remarkable that it’s not uncommon to see them in museum and private collections.
