Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee (1887)-Unmarked Pottery "Empire" Octagonal Plate

Description: *** I SHIP TO ADDRESSES IN THE USA ONLY *** This outstanding Pottery Octagonal Plate was manufactured to commemorate the GOLDEN JUBILEE of H.M. QUEEN VICTORIA in 1887. Sometimes called the "British Empire" plate, it has a very "busy" design with symbols and information about "THE EMPIRE IN WHICH THE SUN NEVER SETS". Towards the bottom is a depiction of the globe where territorial lands are shown in red. At the top is "VICTORIA QUEEN & EMPRESS JUBILEE YEAR 1887". The image of Britannia is prominently displayed having been hand-painted, and holding her gilded trident. The peoples of her land are with Britannia; her empirical nations are listed above the globe, Some statistical date is:1885 IMPORTS - £390,018,579 1885 EXPORTS - £295,967,583TOTAL POPULATION - 305,347,924 TOTAL AREA - 8,101,699 SQUARE MILES The image of the Queen is on the far left and that of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales (future King Edward VII) is on the far right. (Prince Albert had already died). The gilding around the rim is still in quite good condition, but there are signs of wear, too. The underside is void of the manufacturer. This piece is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, but with some crazing. This will be a beautiful addition to your collection.
