Description: The Principles of Chess In Theory and Practice By James Mason Revised and Enlarged Edition undated* David McKay Company Washington Square Philadelphia Hardcover, 330 pages The classic book for learning the game of chess by British-American chess player, journalist and writer James Mason (1849-1905) who became one of the world's best half-dozen players in the 1880s. Mason was ranked the number one player in the world by Chessmetrics during 11 separate months between August 1877 and June 1878. Numerous examples of play are found throughout this book. *As for the non-existant publication date, the David McKay Company was notorious for not printing publication dates in their books until after 1950. I did find online that David McKay was at the Washington Square location in Philadelphia between 1904 to 1930, so the book was published sometime between those dates. This copy has a good amount of cover wear(ends, corners, edges) and hinges cracked inside but the textblock is stable. Interior is generally very good. 5 1/8" x 7 5/8" x 1 1/2"
