Description: Date: 1964 Size: 22.5" x 31.5" (57 x 80cms) Condition A+, newly linenbacked. Artist: Horst Naumann (12 Oct 1908 - 20 Feb 1990) was a German painter and graphic artist. From 1923 to 1925 Naumann studied art in Dresden with Johannes Uhlig. Between 1925 and 1927 he studied at the Art Academy of Dresden, under Otto Dix. From 1928 to 1930, he then taught at the Academy of Arts Dresden. From 1929 he was a member of the association of revolutionary artists, worked as a press cartoonist for the Rote Fahne, the worker's voice, the Pension Pinchers and the Shock from the Left. Naumann was arrested by the Nazis in 1934, from 1939 to 1943 he was assigned to a punishment battalion. After 1945, he was a poster and advertising Designer in Dresden. Naumann was one of the most renowned poster and stamp designers of the GDR. His stamps are counted in the millions and are known to many collectors even today, in particular the series of Old Masters and the Animal Series.
