Description: VERY Special piece of Kentucky history! This pair of British pewter wine goblets are representative of a "friendship ritual" practiced amongst Kentucky's high society, and were a gift to hosts Judge Henry & Sally Meigs from friends they invited to join them at the 1978 Hard Scuffle Steeplechase. From its inception until 1996, the Hard Scuffle Steeplechase was THE EVENT of the season which began as a fundraiser for the Louisville Kentucky Opera. Each goblet has a personalized note to Henry & Sally sharing how much fun they all had throughout their friendship and mention "Garden Hall", Henry & Sally's historic Georgian home located in Frankfort, KY. The wine goblets were acquired from the Louisville, Kentucky estate of preservationist Sally Willis Meigs, widow of WWII ACE Pilot & longtime Franklin Circuit Court Judge Henry Meigs II, and daughter of Kentucky's 46th Governor Simeon S. Willis. The pair each measure appx 8.5"t with a 4"d mouth and a 3.75"d base, and are quite hefty, weighing in at 11oz each. What a great conversation piece for any gathering, and any room decor! In true Henry & Sally fashion, we suggest you enjoy them with your favorite beverage. ~~~ We offer multiple shipping options including free local pick up, and will combine shipping when more than one item is ordered.
