Description: Good Day and Welcome! This is a US Navy Starter fleet for Cruel Seas, the World War II Naval Battle Game. I contains 1/300 scale resin and metal miniatures, as well as datacards, counters and markers for the game. You can simulate small coastal battles among small navies during World Wars II. This fleet contains:2x plastic PT Boat (Higgins) 2x plastic PT Boat (Elco)1x resin and metal Coastal Cutter Sub-chaser 1x resin and metal LCI (L) landing craft4x metal LCM-3 landing craft 1x metal F4U Corsair plane Ship datacards, wake sheets, Japanese Navy flag sheet, torpedo markers, damage markers and (plastic) plume markers. Cruel Seas is a fantastic game, where you take command of a small fleet of MTB, minesweepers, torpedo boats and planes to fight on coastal waters. The miniatures are 1/300 scale, compatible with other 1/300 and 1/285 miniatures. Detail is excellent but you will need a certain degree of modeling experience to put together the larger vessels. Once built and painted, all you need is a blue cloth or sea game mat (I use my D&D mat) to play. This however is not a complete game, you need a copy of Cruel Seas, available as a digital file or physical book. The rules are simple and easy to learn. About the US Navy fleet: This US Navy fleet set contains but a portion of the largest naval force during the SEcond World War -ten American vessels and the legendary F4U Corsair fighter bomber. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbour b the Japanese brought the USA crashing into a war it was keen to avoid but following the events of December 7th 1941 its wealth and fearsome industrial capacity instantly went to a war footing. As a result the navy was massively expanded in all its capabilities. Massed production of new PT (Patrol Torpedo) boats gave American forces fast but though petrol engine vessels that could deliver a mighty punch with four torpedoes as their main armament. Hundreds of these sleek killers were made in various yards in the USA and fought of the British coastline, in the Meditarranean and, most notably, in the campaigns in the vast Pacific Theatre. These excellent well-armed boats could accomplish great things if all went well. An unsung hero of the war was the unglamorous work done by the coast guard and light navy vessels in the shape of the Coastal Cutter sub chasers. They gamely went to their work, using their 40mm and 20mm guns to fend of air attack whilst on the hunt for enemy submarines, be they German, Italian or Japanese. Equally un-glamorous but vital to the success of any ware are the Landing craft that take men and supplies safely overseas to the point of the action. Included in this set is a large LCI (L) with its defensive battery of 20mm guns, and their little companions, the marginally seaworthy LCMs, packed with sea-sick landing troops or vital supplies. Condition is great, especially considering these boxes are made of thin card, which hardly could hold the heavy components inside, most teared themselves in the shelves, this one has a minor tear on the back but has been solved and still looks fantastic!
