Description: New & Unsmoked Ser Jacopo (R1) Rustic Billiard with Briar Stem Inlay This Ser Jacopo pipe is new and unsmoked. Handmade in Italy by Ser Jacopo OK…OK…I realize this isn't actually a Billiard, but that's a start. It's actually a very large (though not stamped Maxima) R1 rustic carved pipe with a very tall (2 1/2+ inches) bowl that's not quite round on the outside. The tobacco chamber, which has been left natural is, of course, round. The back side of the bowl is flat, a nice place for the thumb. This styling was also used on the 2001 Domina as well. The bowl is very nicely rustic carved throughout, with the notable exception of the two nomenclature panels on either side of the shank and the very top of the bowl which helps to give it a very elegant look. The saddle stem has a briar inlay and the briar inlay has a "stow-away in the form of the R1 designation, so one should say there are three spots for the nomenclature. This is a very attractive pipe with a unique shape. Oh, yes…the shank is not round. In fact it's flat on the top and bottom. The top follows the flat portion of the bowl and the bottom gives the pipe a resting place so it will sit in place, always a nice feature. The R1 designation has been used since the early days (though not the earliest days) of the Ser Jacopo workshop. The designation indicates a pipe with a rustic carved finish. The pipe could come in a variety of stains from fairly light to almost black. Often there were two stains, with the top stain buffed in places to let the lower color be seen for contrast. The pipe pictured is the pipe you will receive.Purchase is for the pipe only, no box and no sleeve. The stem of this pipe is handmade from Lucite / acrylic / plexiglas and will not tarnish. The pipe will be packed with the stem separated from the bowl for safety and shipped insured. This pipe DOES NOT use a filter. All pipes are shipped insured. I was the importer and distributor of Ser Jacopo Pipes in the USA from their founding in 1982 and for the succeeding 35+ years. Almost all of the Ser Jacopo pipes I am listing, or have listed, were made during Giancarlo Guidi's lifetime. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding this pipe or about the Ser Jacopo range. Note: Each square in the photo is .5 inch by .5 inch.Ser Jacopo pipes are handmade by Ser Jacopo in Pesaro, Italy.
