Description: This is a working clock which has a thumb-size weight which swings left to right to assist the mechanism. There is also an original key to wind up the spring. I have no knowledge of clocks but I hope this helps clarify the operation of this impressive piece.. New Haven Clock Co. "Willard Chime" Model Weight Driven Banjo Clock. 8-day time only weight-driven movement. Cataloged in 1929 (this clock is dated 1929, 1 - 760), for $72.80 new, quite a sum at the time. It was serviced in 1997, and operates completely. The wood and glass are in excellent condition as is the internal movement mechanisms. There is some flaking of the painted pictures on the back of the glass. I have coated the back with clear varnish to prevent further flaking This particular Wall-Clock has a special history. Clock was found in the Historic Home I purchased years ago. The home was designed, built and lived-in by A.O. Smith, a very prominent and succesful Architect and Builder of the State College AreaThe clock was gifted to "Christmas 1929 Dad + Mother Smith"The local Arboretum even bears his name. Cataloged in 1929, for $72.80 new, quite a sum at the time which explains why the clock is a rare find today. 8” silvered brass dial. 41” x 12-1/4”. clock has not been serviced, but runs as long as it’s hung plumb on the wall. Clock is very large and heavy. It appears to be all original, and in good condition. There is a hole in the bottom bracket, but the catalog illustration does not show a Eagle finial. The clock is made very well, and exudes quality. There is some flaking in the xxx as shown in the pics the Mt. Vernon picture, and painting the white back in. Clock will be shipped with the weight removed.
