Volume 5A includes listings for the countries of the world Namibia through Philippines.Listings for Pitcairn Islands through Samoa can be found in Volume 5B.Because Vol. 5B is a continuation of the first part of the Vol. 5 catalog, the introduction pages are not repeated in each volume. The covers of this year’s catalogs feature a postal theme, a nod to the United States Postal Service’s 250th anniversary in 2025 with a photograph of a letter carrier courtesy of the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division shown in the background. The Nicaragua 50¢ Mailman stamp (Scott 1112) from the 1981 Postal Union of Spain and the Americas, 12th Congress, Managua, set of four stamps (1112, C977-C979) is shown on the cover of the Vol 5A catalog, and the Pitcairn Islands 35¢ Arrival at Post Office stamp (192d) from the 1980 London International Philatelic Exhibition sheet of four (192) is featured on the Vol. 5B catalog. In Vol. 5 of the 2025 Scott Standard catalog, Peru was examined closely as part of the Scott editors’ ongoing review of Latin America and South America countries. More than 3,100 value changes were made with many of the changes being slight increases. For example, the sheet of five 2004 Musicians stamps (Scott 1441) increased from $9.75 to $11 in unused condition and from $7.50 to $9.75 used.Similarly, El Salvador was carefully reviewed, and more than 3,300 value changes were made. As with Peru, most of the value changes were small increases. For example, the 1989 set of two National Fire Brigade 160th Anniversary stamps (Scott 1198-1199) increased from $2 in unused condition to $3, and from 55¢ to 80¢ used.Approximately 1,400 value changes were made for classic Nicaragua, and slight increases were made throughout. The set of three 1929 Airplanes Over Mt. Momotombo airmail stamps (Scott C4-C6) increased from $2.25 to $5 in unused condition, and from $2.15 to $5 used.Paraguay saw approximately 2,000 value changes, most of which were slight increases. One example was the 1970 Easter souvenir sheet (Scott 1253) which went from $10 to $10.50 in unused condition. However, there was a dramatic increase for the 2001 Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations stamp (2680) that went from $4.25 to $30 in unused and used condition. The Scott catalog value is for examples with two attached labels.Poland received a comprehensive review, yielding more than 4,500 value changes. Increases in value far surpassed decreases throughout, with approximately 150 changes resulting in value decreases. For post-2020 stamp issues, the strength of Poland’s currency played a factor in some value increases. One of those issues is the Poland 2021 Czeslaw Slania (1921-2005), Engraver of Postage Stamps souvenir sheet (Scott 4578). This stamp saw an increase from $7.75 in unused and used condition to $13.50 for both in this year’s catalog. The Philippines was also reviewed, and more than 2,100 value changes were made, reflecting a mix of both increases and decreases. In addition, a number of panes were either footnoted or newly listed with minor numbers. See the Number Additions, Deletions and Changes listing for details.Other countries that were reviewed for this year’s catalog but not mentioned in this letter include Panama, Oman and Qatar. Finally, a number of stamps that were previously valued at the old Scott catalog minimum of 25¢ are now valued at the current 30¢ minimum. As mentioned, we encourage you to pay special attention to the Number Additions, Deletions and Changes listing in this volume. We also suggest reading the catalog introduction, which includes an abundance of useful information. The Essential Scott Catalogue Release Schedule Each year we release all 8 of our essential Scott Catalogues at the beginning of the following months:Volume 1 (countries A, B & the United States): AprilVolume 2 (countries C, D, E & F): MayVolume 3 (countries G, H & I): JuneVolume 4 (countries J, K, L & M): JulyVolume 5 (countries N, O, P, Q, R and S thru "Sam"): AugustVolume 6 (countries "San-", T, U, V, W, Y & Z): SeptemberScott US Specialized: OctoberScott Classic (1840-1940): November ABOUT US.
