Description: This is a listing for a super heavy 47 ounce mortal and pestle. I saw this at a sale and it definitely had some blemishes which you can see in the picture. There are scuffs on it and it looks like it might have oxidized in a few places. Also I was reluctant to purchase this because the inside and bottom have some build up and residue on them -- and even with some cleaning I cannot remove it. I actually was going back and forth as to whether I was going to purchase it, but I was drawn to it because it was so heavy. I did a lot of research about this and cannot identify the brand because it is partially rubbed off on the bottom. You will also see there is number 6 on the bottom. I asked a number of people who work in antiques and also some resellers and there were a wide range of opinions as to what this is worth but no one could be certain. It is also unclear what the material was or what this was used for; one person was fairly insistent this was likely used by a pharmacist to grind pills. But.. at this point I have no others ideas as to how to research this so I just decided to disclose all of this and post it for sale.
