Description: This listing is for a 3-club set of antique vintage hickory clubs from the late 1920's or early 1930's. These are all marked Palakona on the back. The shafts are made of real bamboo (it is a grass and not a wood so I can't call them wooden shafted). The shafts were made by Hardy Brothers in the UK. They were known for their highest quality bamboo fly rods. UK manufacturers were searching for a suitable shaft material to compete with the "new" steel shafts and decided bamboo was the way to go. Jack White was instrumental in promoting and using these bamboo shafts, See the pictured brochure. It appears to be a White exclusive. Jack White woods are highly coveted by modern day hickory players. The heads were made by William Gibson of Scotland to White's model specifications and White chose the ideal shafts and installed them. The shafts are what makes White woods such good players. All of these woods have large heads and relatively deep faces. A really nice-looking set. Included with their specs are the driver 43" length 12* loft and D 2 swingweight. The Brassie/2wood 43" 14* C 5 and the Spoon/3wood 41" 22* C 7. Really nice play specs on all of these as made. The heads are all in very good clean condition and look good. Original shafts which are marked. The shafts are straight and not delaminating. They feel stiff but most bamboo shafts do. All have what appears to be their original long leather wrap grips that are in very good vintage condition. Please look at the multiple zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. Very unusual to find any set that stayed together all these years and a Palakona shafted set is extremely rare. Shipping in the US is calculated for this item and based on a 7-pound 48x5x5 box. The closer you are to me in NC (27712 zip) the less shipping will be. This is the way the carriers work and unfortunately shipping has become more expensive recently. On top of that, most buyers don't realize that eBay takes almost 15% of what I receive as stated shipping (out of $10 I only receive $8.50).
