Description: This auction is for the following autographed 4x6 photograph:BIO: Michael Durilla WWII B-29 gunner with the 3rd Photo Reconnaissance Squadron later transferred to the 8th Air Force gathering photographic intelligence from 25,000 to 30,000 feet. On August 6th, 1945 Durilla’s B-29 piloted by Jack Economos departed on a routine photography reconnaissance mission to photograph potential targets near Hiroshima, Kure and farther north. Durilla’s B-29 approached Hiroshima at about 27,000 feet when Enola Gay’s “Little Boy” exploded and began to form a mushroom cloud. Durilla’s B-29 captured the only photographs snapped looking straight down on Hiroshima as the mushroom cloud was enveloping.
