Description: Lot Six Metropolitan Museum of Art MMA Sterling Silver Dollhouse Miniatures Miniature silver -- as children's toys and dollhouse accessories -- was being made in England and on the Continent as early as the sixteenth century. The period of its greatest popularity extended from the late-seventeenth century well into the eighteenth, when it was created to furnish the specially-made dollhouses (called "baby houses" at the time) of the wealthy. In addition to tableware, these silver toys included furniture, bed warmers, fireplace sets, and chandeliers. All pieces are sterling silver, designed by the renowned Brooklyn silversmith, Obediah Fisher, based on original works in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
