The sleeve says "America's Greatest Value in Recorded Entertainment - Twice the Music at Half the Cost" and although the sleeve also says "4 full length TOP HITS 49¢", the record actually has 5 songs, so this obviously is not the original TOPS record sleeve for this TOPS record.A little about the TOPS label: TOPS was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1947 as Tops Music Enterprises by Carl Doshay and Sam Dickerman, "rack jobbers" who sold used jukebox 78 rpm records to grocery stores, drug stores, five-and-dime stores and the like. They decided to enter the record business by recording and releasing "knockoff' cover version records featuring session musicians and vocalists at a list price of 39 cents as opposed to 79 cents from the major labels. TOPS merged with PRI Records in 1958, which in turn, sold to a group of investors in 1960, then went bankrupt in about 1962.PLAYLISTSide ABEYOND THE SEA Marty HolmesBABY (YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES) Joni Cole and Bob MitchellSide BLET IT BE ME The Charles BrothersCOUNTRY BOY Slim AtkinsDOWN BY THE STATION The Toppers VINYL appears to be in good condition, with minor signs of use and/or wear (surface smudges/scratches).
