Description: Lilium nepalense is a perennial 9-species in the Liliaceae family. Its native range is from the Himalayas to Thailand. The familiar name is Nepal Lily. It grows on wet forest edges at elevations of 3,900-9,800 feet. During the day, you won't catch the sweet smell, but the fragrance is heavily scented at night. It grows best in cool greenhouses with humus-rich soils. It also likes to be drenched with water to simulate snow melting in the Spring. It can grow to around 2-3 feet tall from a stoloniferous bulb, which will pop up its first shoots away from the bulb location. The leaves are lanceolate around 10-12 inches long and 1-2 inches wide. The down-facing flowers are cream or pale green with a purple center and recurved petals. They are in bloom from late Spring until early Summer. It prefers to grow in light shade with average water needs. Zones 8-10 Germination Keep lily seeds frozen in a tightly sealed plastic bag until you are ready to sow. Sow seeds 1/2' deep into the soil and keep moist in a sunny location. Germination occurs in 3-4 weeks. You will have strong plants with mature stems in 3 years.
