Description: Lilium henryi var. citranum is a deciduous 9-species in the Liliaceae family. Its native range is in China from Guizhou to Hubei and Jiangxi. Familiar names include Tiger Lily or Henry's Lily. This species is citrinum, a variety that is more of a pale yellow instead of orange. It grows naturally in the mountains of central China. They tend to bend toward the light and may need to be staked up. It makes a beautiful garden plant for its long-lived blooms. It can grow to around 4-6 feet tall and 12-15 inches wide from a rhizome that can get 2 feet in diameter and weighs up to 5 pounds. The dark green leaves are slender lance-shaped, while the stems are green and purple. The non-fragrant flowers are pale yellow, recurved, and nodding. The petals have black speckles all over them while the anthers are dark orange standing above the petals. The flowers come out in clusters of 10-20 in late summer until early fall. It prefers to grow in light shade with average water needs. Zones 4-9 Germination Keep lily seeds frozen in a tightly sealed plastic bag until you are ready to sow. Sow seeds 1/2' deep into the soil and keep moist in a sunny location. Germination occurs in 3-4 weeks. You will have strong plants with mature stems in 3 years.
