Description: *** I SHIP TO ADDRESSES IN THE USA ONLY *** This handsome Pottery Mug was manufactured by Thomas Goode to commemorate the [UNREALIZED] CORONATION H.M. KING EDWARD VIII in 1937. The black and white photo of the king is shown in a cartouche with a crown at the top. The decoration around his photo represents the national flowers and two lions. The banner bears the coronation date of May 12th 1937. The other side of the mug depicts the King's royal cypher, "E VIII R", with a crown above and a banner below it with the wording, "ACCESSION JANUARY 26TH 1936". Below that is a saying, "THE FRIEND OF HIS PEOPLE". The commemoration encircles the gilded upper rim with the wording, "TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF KING EDWARD VIII KING EMPEROR. The handle is trimmed in gilding and bears the design of acanthus leaves. Above the gilded bottom edge are three concentric embossed rings for additional decoration. The underside is back-stamped with the Thomas Good manufacturing information. This piece is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Typical of pottery pieces that are of this age (almost 80 years later), there is "crazing" of the mug which is very subtle with this piece. Thomas Goode was a premier manufacturer of commemorative wear. This would be a quality, handsome piece to add to your collection. There is no original box or certificate of authenticity. I take extra care to pack commemorative items for shipping. Thank you for looking at my auction!
