Description: This remarkable ornithology lithograph with hand-finished color is from the esteemed John Gould’s Birds of Asia published in London between 1850 and 1883. Birds of Asiafeatured some of the most vibrant varieties of birds to be found around the world due to the wide reaching natural fauna of the expansive geographical region. The work took thirty-four years to complete and is considered one of Gould’s greatest accomplishments. It’s Cissa Pyrrhocyyanea or Red and Blue Cissa , with the original hand colored lithograph measuring 19” x 14” behind a hand colored mat board. I believe it’s in a real gilded frame, that is worn, measuring 27 1/4” x 21 3/4”. The lithograph has a small area of white wash on a couple of spots, but in remarkably good condition, with vibrant colors, for being over 150 years old.
