Around 1.5” long not including bail. This cross is decorated with many of the symbols of St Peter. At the center, encircled, is the upside down cross upon which he asked to be crucified as he felt unworthy to imitate his Lord. On the horizontal arms are the crossed keys of the Kingdom and the sword and ear, referring to the incident in Gethsemane when Peter cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant. Upon the top arm is the crowing cock of Peter’s denial, and at the base is the patriarchal cross upon the rock, as in Christ’s statement, “that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.” (Mathew 16:18). Peter comes from the Greek word pietros, meaning rock.
