Large detailed antique copper engraved map of Hungary, Croatia, Dalmatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgary, and a small part of Turkey with Constantinople, by Homann Heirs. The map presents the region of present-day Hungary, Romania, and the Balkan republics. The political divisions, towns and cities, and topographical details are shown. The map is completed by large decorative title and distance scale cartouches at the bottom corners, and an alternate title running along the top: Carte d' Hongrie en General Contenant Selon la Division Ancienne & Methodique, la Hongrie en Particulier la Croatie la Dalmatie, la Bosnie, la Servie la Boulgarie; la Principaute de Transylvanie les Despotats de Walchie & de Moldav.... Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724) was the most prolific map publisher of the 18th Century. He founded his company in 1702. In 1705, he became the Geograph of the Emperor Charles VI. In the same year, he was also Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin. They protected the authors in all scientific fields such as printers, copper engravers, map makers and publishers. In 1716 Homann published his "Grosser Atlas ueber die ganze Welt" (Grand Atlas of all the World). Some maps were drawned with the engraver Christoph Weigel the Elder. Homann died in Nuremberg. He was succeeded by the Homann Heirs company, which was in business until 1848. Size with margins : 53 x 62 cm / 20,8 x 24,4 inches Condition : good condition, on strong paper.
