The ship model is approximately 40” tall, and 44” overall length. The model includes 675 solid bronze ornamental pieces to adorn her stern, decks and hull. Blocks and deadeyes and other fittings are finely shaped walnut. The hull is planked in basswood and walnut. The ship is in a custom enclosed display case which is included in the price. The warship was built in 1637 by King Charles I of England. It was the largest and most powerful warship of its time. The ship carried 104 guns of various sizes, and could fire a broadside of more than a ton of metal. It was covered in detailed ornamental gilded carvings, designed to impress the nations of Europe with England’s wealth and power. She had a crew of about 800 men. The Admiralty rebuilt her in 1660, and changed her name to “Royal Sovereign”. The ship was consumed by fire and burned to the waterline in 1696.
