Description: This sale is for a fully-restored Hallicrafters SX-28A ham radio/short wave receiver. This radio was one of the backbones of WWII Allied radio intelligence gathering. It has been on many cover pictures of RADIO NEWS and other period magazines. To me, it is the best looking receiver of all time. But I am biased! This particular radio is not 100% original. But it is close. The cabinet has been over-sprayed black--but not the front panel--it is original. There are a few other things like the thumb-bolts that hold the radio into the cabinet and maybe the electrolytic power supply capacitors. But those are the only issues that I see. Electrically, the radio has been restored to factory-original performance. It may not be perfect. But it is certainly excellent. Notice in the pictures that the paper bypass caps have been replaced by melting out the wax, stuffing a modern cap inside and then refilling the wrapper. So the internal appearance is original...except for possibly the power supply filter caps. I am not sure the look of those caps matches the original. I may have the manual around here somewhere. If so, I will include it. Local pick-up is free. Shipping the radio is a flat rate of $140 plus $50 handling charge for my packing using sheet styrofoam from Lowes and heavy cardboard boxing. I am in Pittsburgh, PA. If you are far from me, I reserve the right to cancel the sale unless you want to work out something with me to fund the excess sjhipping cost. Look at the pix and ask questions. No reserve.
