Giuseppe Armani Gemini 575 of 5000 426C Giuseppe Armani was born in Italy in 1935 and passed away in 2006. Armani sculptures are known for their extraordinary detail and realism. Armani was a master, and in 1975, he accepted an exclusive offer from Florence Sculpture d’Arte. He developed an art workshop and brough in other artists in house over time such as David Lyttleton, Paolo Leoncini, and Fabrizio Tani. For the following 31 years he created beautiful masterpieces ranging from traditional Capodimonte styling to more modern, contemporary sculptures, including award winning pieces for the Vatican and Whitehouse. There were named series, starting with Capodimonte, wildlife, religious, cabaret, fair ladies and Disney series. In addition, there was a G. Armani Society and special membership where pieces were exclusively commissioned for society patrons and members. The executive director of the G. Armani Society was Connie Ribaudo. Much of the Armani’s pieces were also priced in the secondary market by the Collectors Information Bureau, in secondary market report publications published by Diane Carnevale Jones. After about the mid-eighties, these figurines were issued as a part of a series, with further sub-series number, and finish designations. The older pieces contained higher levels of porcelain and have shinier finishes and a more cartoonish face and style. Over time, the resin content was changed to create a cold-cast porcelain, a time-consuming process that allows the most minute details of the original to be reproduced. The figurines were then painted with care using luminous colors. The most time consuming and highest priced figurines are the “C” finish. These figurines are fully painted with colors that are bright and vibrant. Other less expensive finishes are the “B” (marble), “E” (mosaic and patterned), “F” (flesh colors), “M” (metal such as bronze), “T” finish (Earthy), and “P” finish (pastel). For wildlife and some African American figurines, the “S” finish was used with bright and vibrant colors. Armani figurines should all be “signed in the mold” after 1973. In addition, look for a painted “signature” beginning in the 1980s. This was done by Mr. Armani himself and would represent his approval of the figurine. Some larger figurines would be called special or limited issues that would be consecutively numbered (750 to 5000). The figurines would range between 7 and 20 inches (or more) in height and have varied widths. Armani always kept production low on an issue and maximums rarely exceeded 10,000 world-wide, with half or more usually going to the United States. When 50% of a production sold out, the figurine would become “endangered”, when 80% of a production sold out, it would be categorized as “last call”, and once 100% were allocated to dealers, they would be “fully subscribed”, and then the figurine would be “retired”. Sometimes, the figurines would have customization by the dealers such as chains in gold or silver. Giuseppe Armani has long since passed away. The company no longer exists. These figurines are destined to become highly sought-after like a tiffany or rolex. It is estimated that a grand total of 100 to 200 thousand of these figurines (in grand total from small to large) were produced, and that of this number, maybe 20% were done in the “C” fully painted finish and 10% issued in collector or limited edition. These figurines are destined to become exceptional collector pieces given their fragility and beauty. Over the last five years, the value of these figurines has started to substantially increase as more collectors become aware of the value of these gems. The figurines for sale are all hand painted individually. No two are exactly alike.
