Description: "Frankenstein in Baghdad" by Ahmed Saadawi is a dark retelling based on the idea of Frankenstein in which a man creates a creature called Whatsitsname in Iraq while it is being ravaged by war. This used paperback has wear on the corners and spine of the front and back covers, but the pages themselves are in great condition with no marks, tears, or folds. I did not give this book a great review, which isn't to say it lacks a great premise or great writing. There was a lot of time spent explaining real estate situations that took me away from the story itself. It also made it difficult to grasp the actual timeline of the story which became disorienting in a bad way (to me). That being said, it's a strong story. Those who enjoy war fiction and the supernatural will definitely enjoy the genre overlap, but it leans more heavily to war than it does to supernatural. Still, it's very thought provoking and has a fair share of loveable characters.
