Description: A beautiful antique Victorian solid 9k gold, black and white enamel engraved memento mori mourning locket with original photograph of a girl and her hair inside. This wonderful, good sized solid 9k yellow gold memento mori locket pendant has a lot going on both the outside and inside! The front shows a cross, fern and flowers depicted in black and white enamel with 'In Memory Of' in white enamel around the outside highlighted with floral scrolling black enamel work and surrounded by floral carvings, the reverse of the locket has been elaborately engraved with beautiful flowers over a plaque and three hearts with the initials 'WJW'. The locket opens to reveal a glazed compartment with a Victorian photograph of a girl with braided hair held with an Alice band, opposite another glazed compartment displaying a lock of her hair wonderfully laid down to represent curving flowers and highlighted with seed pearls and fine gold rope work throughout-just fabulous! The locket is unmarked and tests for 9k gold. The locket measures about 40mm x 29mm including the bail. The total weight of the locket is approximately 15.7 grams. The locket is in general very good condition with all over light wear including some light scratches and pinpricks to the enamel seen under a loupe. The photograph is in very good condition, the hairwork has some missing gold wire decoration. The bail is strong and the locket closes with a strong snap.
