Description: This is a tail hook off of an F-111 Aardvark fighter, bomber, jet aircraft. This is not a mock-up—this is the real thing—an extremely difficult to find, rare item! You can see by the photos and its condition, that if it could talk, this tail hook would have some great stories to tell. It has been ground down some where the hook scraped against the runway surface, and there is also burned residue (I am guessing it is from some of the coating on the cable) in the notched area where the cable would be under high pressure as it rubbed against the hook—I imagine it would get really hot while slowing the F-111 down before it ran out of runway. If you look close you can also see scrape marks just before the hook. This is where the cable hit hard and rubbed just before getting caught by the hook. It also has what looks like asphalt embedded in the back side of the hook. Was this from the aircraft being pulled backwards by the cable after landing and digging the hook into the runway surface? I’m not sure how it happened, but I bet it was the result of an unconventional landing. This hook would be a great display item for a den, playroom, office, etc. Mount it on the wall with a plaque listing the specifications and a photo of an F-111! Due to its military origins, this tail hook is sold for display use only within the United States of America only, and is not sold for use on an aircraft as originally intended. Thanks for viewing this listing.
