Exceptional Set 19th C. Antique French 5 Light Gilt Bronze Louis XVI Sconces 39"

Description: ********NOTE: BULBS NOT PART OF SALE***** For sale is a set of spectacular 19th century Louis XVI style French gilt bronze five arm wall sconces. Provenance: A Private Connecticut Shoreline Collection The sconces in an impressive large scale size of 39" in length. You will search long and hard before you find a pair of 5 light Louis XVI Gilt bronze sconces in this impressive scale size for this price. Having a rare five arm lighting display with old wired light sockets in the original candle holders. All old sockets in place. The wall sconces having a gorgeous central shield focal point surrounded by intricate foliate, scrolling, punch and stippling work along with swags, floral shoots, and topped with a double crimped ribbon on wreath design and finished down with a drop leaf and berry bottom finial All parts appear to be original, including the bobeches and wax drips which are often lost or replaced. The gold gilding on the surface being in overall good condition with exceptionally deep yellow gold coloration. Normal wear of the gilding around the candle holder inserts on the bobeches as these were often touched the most when attending to the lighting. (See detailed pic) Each with early wiring which should always be replaced with modern contemporary code compliant wiring if you intend to use these as lighting in your home. Of course the wiring and the sockets can be removed and these can take on candles as they originally did. The main profile photo is taken indoors with the bulbs inserted. The outdoor pictures against the brick wall show the sconces with the lightbulbs removed. This is how the sconces will ship. The lightbulbs as noted above, are not included in the sale. We do not ship lightbulbs through the mail. When acquired these were hanging by hook screws from a hole on the top on the back. We have hung these just on a screw through the top ribbon section just for picture purposes. We assume there was originally a hanging bracket on the reverse which is no longer be with the sconces. But we are unsure. They hang perfectly fine from the hole on the reverse using a hook screw. (See pic 18) Overall, in good condition for age. As noted to gilt loss around the candleholders and drips and some areas of white substance, which we believe is old paint, probably from the walls being painted around it. Normal surface scratches and any other age appropriate wear as would be expected for a set of antiques of the period.
