Description: Rare , early ETCHED pipe-back blade, U S Officer’s Saber marked CLAUBURG / SOLINGEN and “IRON PROOF” marked on its spine. Early, TOP quality Solingen SWORD SMITH who’s famous for his damascus steel weepons… these swords! Made more than 185 years ago, this sword may have been used during the Civil War even though its production predates the CW. The blade shows some faint signs of lamination and I believe the blade’s construction as being of layered steel, aka Pattern Welded Damascus steel . Old and somewhat worn etching on a beautiful blade …with Eagle (plus more) on one side, and etched U.S. (plus more) on the other side. Etching at blade forte also, both sides. Blade is full and over 31 inches long and at least 1/4 inch thick….a lot of fine Solingen steel…A single 1/2 inch wide fuller 3/4 the length of blade. High Quality construction, a beautiful blade with a little rust at the tip which is cleanable. Quality workmanship is the standard from Clauburg. The scabbard steel has nice even patina and show appropriate age. The Hilt wrap is a beautiful sharkskin and nice. Half of the twisted wire wrap is there on the hilt. Typically 3 bar guard that accompanies a cavalry saber. Close ups to show that it is a laminated sword. Happy Collecting 😎 Priority shipping with tracking and insurance.
