Erwin Rommel Desert Fox WW II German Commander War Dated Autograph 1942 Display

Description: Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel [1891 1944] popularly known as the Desert Fox was a German Field Marshal of World War II. Rommel began his military career in 1911 and was a highly decorated officer during World War I. During World War II Rommel distinguished himself as a commander of the 7th Panzer Division during the 1940 invasion of France and earned the nickname ''Desert Fox'' for his leadership of German and Italian forces in the North African campaign in which he repeatedly forced back British and American assaults. In 1944 Adolf Hitler appointed Rommel as the commander of German forces positioned to oppose any Allied cross-channel invasion of the French coast. In October of 1944 Rommel was linked to a conspiracy to assassinate Adolf Hitler but because of his status as a national hero Hitler eliminated him by secretly forcing him to commit suicide with cyanide pills in return for assurances that his family would be safe. Field Marshal Rommel was given a state funeral and it was announced that he had died from injuries received from an earlier strafing of his staff car in Normandy by Allied planes. Listed for auction is a stunning display which contains a authenticated war dated [DS] document signed by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. The document was typed while the Field Marshal commanded the Afrika Korps and is dated 10 Oktober 1941. The document references three German solider assigned to the Afrika Korps and the document is signed ''Rommel'' in blue graphite pencil above his typed rank ''General der Panzertruppen und Befehlshaber der Panzergruppe Afrika''. The document measures 8.50 x11.00 inches [4.50 x 2.25 visible] and is in fine condition with a bold signature. The document has been authenticated by JSA Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. The display itself is stunning and has been assembled with great attention to details as follows. Mounted above the document is an attractive color [8.00 x 10.00] military image of Field Marshal Rommel. Also mounted within the display is a [quality reproduction] Afrika Korps cuff title, two [2] German Iron Crosses [quality reproductions], and the last detail is a professionally engraved metal plaque which contains a quote from the Field Marshal and reads as follows, ''Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel ''The Desert Fox'' November 15, 1891 - October 14, 1944. ''Don't fight a battle if you don't gain anything by winning''. The display itself has been professionally assembled and triple matted in all acid free materials as follows. The outer matte in a blue linen which has been accented with a gold and a black inner matte. The framing around this display is quite unique, it is a quality heavy black wood which has the appearance of looking like an iron frame with rivets and has been assembled to the dimensions of 28.00 x 19.00 inches. The display is a wonderful example of this prominent German commander, containing an authenticated signed war dated Afrika Korps document and is beautifully framed. Afrika Korps documents signed by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel are not common and are desirable to obtain for the military collector. We promise absolutely no disappointments.
